A 15-year-old riding a mini motorcycle was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver early Monday morning in the Westlake area and police are searching for the suspect.

It happened at around 1:45 a.m. near Olympic Boulevard and Arapahoe Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Officers arrived to find the victim, Joseph Rangel, dead at the scene.

"A male juvenile was riding a motorized 'pocket bike' northbound on Arapahoe Street approaching Olympic Boulevard when he lost control and slid into the intersection," said a statement from LAPD. "The suspect vehicle, traveling eastbound on Olympic Boulevard, collided with the victim."

Instead of stopping to help Rangel, the driver fled.

They have not yet released information on the suspect driver or a car involved in the collision.

A standing reward of up to $50,000 has been offered by the city of Los Angeles, as is typical with all fatal hit-and-runs that happen in the city.

Anyone who knows more is asked to contact LAPD at (213) 473-0234.
